Course Details 

Why choose this course?

We are constantly exposed to geographical issues in everyday life, including: environmental concerns; natural disasters; world weather; local developments; urban and rural change; population movements; maps and travel. Students are provided with an opportunity to develop an awareness and understanding of the patterns, processes and relationships that characterise human and physical environments.
During this course you will not only develop subject knowledge but also a broad range of transferable skills, that you will use to investigate the impacts that humans have had on the planet, from a local to a global scale, and will assess the extent to which management of these systems can lead to a sustainable global future.

Physical Geography:
• Water and carbon cycles
• Glacial systems and landscapes
• Hazards

Human Geography:
• Global systems and global governance
• Changing places
• Population and the environment

Assessment:
• Physical Geography Exam 2.5 hours (40% overall A level)
• Human Geography Exam 2.5 hours (40% overall A level)
• Non-Examined Assessment (20% of A level)

Careers and Higher Education

Geography is one of the ten facilitating subjects, that are helpful to gain entry into a Russell Group University. A Level Geography can be accepted as either a science or an arts subject at universities. The skills developed throughout the course are transferable and helpful in a number of careers including urban planning, environmental, water resource and transport management and many IT roles requiring an understanding of GIS patterns.
